Last weekend was Family Friday for me, and this weekend I’m meeting up with a friend from faraway.
I am usually the faraway friend that comes to visit. It’s become so much a thing that I actually warn people now, when they flippantly say “you should come visit,” or “if you’re ever in (town/region/country) you can totally stay with me” that I am the person/friend/casual acquaintance that will actually take them up on that.
It’s a special bond with faraway friends. Don’t get me wrong, close-by friends are of course wonderful too, the friends who are there are the most important kinds of friends, and I value them dearly. But traveling a great distance to connect with someone who was perhaps at one time a close-by friend and is now faraway, it’s an extra special thing.
I have definitely been the guest far more times than the host, so it’s exciting to have friends from faraway coming to my city to play.

It’s been awhile since I have gone very far to visit anyone else. The last few years have been a little light on travel to faraway places (can’t imagine why 😒) but next year promises many more opportunities to visit faraway friends and maybe make some new closer-by friends too.
How about you? Do you have faraway friends? Are you the faraway friend? Have you ever traveled to visit a faraway friend? Want to be my faraway friend? Close-by friends are welcome too 😊

Thank you, Janelle! I love this term. I’d have never believed years ago before my blog that I’d meet and befriend people from other countries and continents.
Because of the pandemic and all of those zoom things that I have done over the last couple of years, most of my friends now are far away…and I’m grateful for them….But….That’s kind of a bummer when you would really love to just spend time together… 💜
I have some faraway friends that I’ve made on this blog and I would like to meet them in person, but it’s probably going to be a while before that actually happens because…life.
It’s pretty cool if you ever get the chance to! I feel like we all get to know each other in a different way through writing than you know people in real life, so actually connecting in real life is a special thing.
I have a complicated relationship with other humans, so I tend to just keep to myself.
