If you’re a Spotify person, or even if you’re not, you’ve probably seen the “Spotify Wrapped” posts popping up around social media today.
I don’t usually like companies/programs to know a whole lot about my life, but with Spotify… the relationship is almost intimate. Like, Spotify knows me, and sometimes it’s almost eerie how spot on Spotify is with the music I need in the moment, and honestly, I’m okay with that. At least someone is using my data for good.
For some people, music might be a hobby, or a nice thing to have, or even just something for the background. For me music is nothing short of a lifeline.
It’s also, I find, somewhat of a vulnerable thing to share “my music” with people. These songs are my top songs for a reason: I’ve listened to some of them on repeat when that was the only thing I could do to cheer myself up, or calm myself down.
This year’s top song selections are delightfully dominated by “strong female lead / survivor” vibes:
“I could surrender but I’d
-“White Flag” by JOSEPH
Just be pretending, no I’d
Rather be dead than live a lie
Burn the white flag”
“I went all or nothing
-“All or Nothing” by MONOWHALES
Took my best shot at something
Crawling through hell and back again”
“There ain’t no man can save me
-“Ain’t No Man” by The Avett Brothers
There ain’t no man can enslave me
There ain’t no man, or men that can change the shape my soul is in
There ain’t nobody here
Who can cause me pain or raise my fear
Cause I got only love to share”
As well, I resonate strongly with the “f*ck it let’s go” vibes of the 4th song, another banger:
“I think I’ll dye my hair and I’ll move to Alaska
“Alaska” by Little Hurt
Grab all of my money, guitar, and a jacket
Drivin’ outta of town maybe wave if I pass ya
Sorry I had to move to Alaska”
Finally, the list really is underlined with a good dose of acceptance with the final song:
“It’s out of my control
-“Coast” by Gone Gone Beyond
So I’m gonna coast for a little while
It’s out of my control
So I’m gonna coast for a little while”
As this is also the last day of Nano Poblano 2023, or the month of committing to posting something on my blog every day along with my team of Cheer Peppers, it seems fitting to close off with a blog “wrapped” of sorts:
This year, my top posts from this year have been:
- If We Were Having Cocktails – In which I share what I might share with you “if we were having cocktails”
- The Call – In which I decided haphazardly and very last minute to join this challenge
- It’s Okay – In which I give myself a bit of a pep talk, which apparently resonated with you because it’s in spot #3 for views this year
- Follow Your Fire – In which I celebrate the people who are doing just that
- Alternate Universe Self – In which I ponder what my alternate universe selves are up to
So… that’s a wrap! Congrats to all my fellow Cheer Peppers who committed to this month of blogging together! š¶šš¾

I thought Stomp and Holler was just something toddlers and Karens did…I had no clue it was its own genre.
