Four Long Years (not an election post)

Four long years

And I don’t know where I’ve gone

But I’m awake now…

Life goes on

-Bronze Radio Return

Four long years ago my life changed forever. It had nothing to do with the US election, but the date will always be reminiscent of that moment in my timeline when everything changed.

Four years ago I was thrust simultaneously into physical & emotional darkness from a combination of laser eye surgery recovery and being blindsided by betrayal and brokenness. I wasn’t watching the election because I couldn’t see. I was listening to the Chronicles of Narnia on audio disc, guided through the darkness by Aslan himself.

“Courage, dear heart.”

In the last four years, I have needed a lot of courage.

It feels like a lifetime ago. The past four years have held some of the worst and best moments of my life. In four years – the length of time it takes to get a Bachelor’s degree – I feel like I’ve gotten a B.A. in rebuilding, in travel therapy, and in adulting solo.

I made it to the top of the “Mountain of Rebuilding.” I rode my motorcycle the whole way down to southern California (from Vancouver). I learned to love again. I learned to change my oil.

Today, I bought a plant.

I’m not sure who or where I’ll be in four more years. But this day will always be a milestone for me. Regardless of the outcome of the US election, four years is a milestone worth celebrating.

  1. You will be a person with too many house plants! It’s a slippery slope….

Also lots of love to you ❤❤❤❤
